RESTORE PIEDMONT WAY

BE PART OF IT!

Your tax deductible donation will enable us to revitalize the historic parkway and its surrounding neighborhood. Provided we raise the necessary funds, replanting can begin as early as autumn 2008.

The Challenge

The Current Conditions Survey illustrates the aging landscape’s desperate need for attention.

The rehabilitation plan encompasses five city blocks from Dwight Way to Gayley Road near California Memorial Stadium. The plan will restore Frederick Law Olmsted’s vision [formulated in 1865] of a gently curving residential parkway lined with an over-arching bowery of trees. In 1865, Olmsted named the parkway Piedmont Way. In the early 20th century the City of Berkeley formally changed the name to Piedmont Avenue.
